Hill sliding in the Highlands !

Hill sliding in the highlands!

Our bus to the Cameron Highlands took about 4 hours and again following the theme of Malaysia the bus was lovely. We arrived around 5pm in the evening and checked into our hostel where we were staying the next 3 nights. Overall the hostel was not too bad, the beds were comfy and we had curtains for privacy, this being said 2 toilets and 3 sinks shared between around 20-30 people was slightly frustrating. We grabbed some food before calling it a night with a big day of trekking ahead of us.

The next morning we woke up ready and raring to go. The plan for the day involved a 4-5 hour beginner trek leaving at around 9am. Myself, Ben and Tom set off on the walk leaving Rohan behind due to him not wanting to wake up early enough! The first hour or so of the trek involved climbing up a rather tricky path through a forrest. This was a lot of fun however very intense due to the uneven ground and random ropes we had to use to pull ourselves up. We eventually made it to the top to find ourselves surrounded by mist and unable to see the view at all which was a little dissatisfying. Ironically this is when it all started to go downhill! We embarked on the descent quickly realising the ‘beginner’ trek was a little harder than expected caused by the prior rain the last few days. Slipping and sliding everywhere we struggled our way down having to slide on our bums on numerous occasions, even coming across an older gentleman sat on the side of the path waiting for the rescue team with a dislocated shoulder. We came to the conclusion that we were extremely lucky that neither of us were hurt. Eventually we made it back to the hostel, cleaned ourselves up and headed out for some well deserved dinner and beers! With us all being pretty shattered we got an early night deciding that we had done enough trekking in the Highlands.

Our final day in the highlands we awoke with little plans for the day. After deciding the evening before that we were going to pop the trekking shoes back in the bag we made our way to the local strawberry farm. This, if I’m honest, was underwhelming. We made the most of the afternoon and thankfully last day in the Cameron Highlands in the local bar enjoying a few cocktails.

The following day we jumped onto the bus heading back to Kuala Lumpur to meet up with Connor and organise our plans for Singapore. We spent 2 nights back in Kuala Lumpur not doing to much as we had already seen majority of the city. A few highlights of our second visit however have to be watching the Lionesses in the world cup final, enjoying the rooftop pool for the second time and spending some time taking in the Petronas Towers lit up at night.

To summarise, our time spent in Malaysia was a little underwhelming. The weather was not great and there was not much to do in George Town and Cameron Highlands. This being said the company we were with made the visit a lot better and we had a lot of laughs.

Next stop, Singapore! This blogs a corker!
